A zero-waste ceramic filter for manual drip coffee in the design of Mount Fuji!

Made of porous ceramic, the COFIL Mount Fuji Ceramic Coffee Filter has numerous 50-micron holes about the size of a strand of hair that help to remove impurities and reduce bitterness. This means it can be used without any additional paper or cloth filters, so you can enjoy the pure and rich aroma of your coffee beans, and reuse it as many times as you want!

Just remember to use coarse to medium ground coffee beans and, after brewing, you’ll notice a delicate layer of coffee oil shimmering on the surface. That's a sign of its depth and character!

No Waste. No Aftertaste. Just Pure Aroma.

Product Care Instructions

HOW TO USE?

  • Use coarse to medium ground coffee. Before brewing, warm the filter by pouring a little hot water through it.
  • Handle with care — ceramic will break if dropped or struck.
  • Avoid sudden temperature changes, which can crack the filter.
  • Do not use if chipped or cracked.

HOW TO CLEAN?

  • Hand wash only. Never use dish soap or detergent — the porous ceramic absorbs it and taints the coffee.
  • After each use, remove the grounds and rinse under water until it runs clear.
  • For deeper cleaning (about monthly, or when flow slows), boil the filter for 10 minutes in water with 2 tablespoons of baking soda, then rinse.
  • Do not use the dishwasher.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my COFIL ceramic coffee filter dishwasher safe?

The ceramic coffee filters are designed for hand-rinse only. Dishwasher detergent soaks into the pores and taints your coffee, and the heat and knocking around can chip or crack the ceramic.

Can I put the ceramic coffee filter on the microwave?

We do not recommend it to put Imari Toei's COFIL coffee filters in the microwave, since the thermal shock can cause cracks or even breakage.

Do I really need paper filters?

No, all COFIL coffee filters are a 2-in-1 zero-waste paperless filter and dripper. They are made with countless 50-micron holes, about the width of a strand of hair, that let the coffee through while holding the grounds back. Add the grounds and just pour. You can reuse it as many times as you like.

What grind should I use?

Use coarse to medium, the kind used for drip or pour-over. A fine, espresso-style grind sits on top and clogs the holes, so the coffee slows to a crawl. If yours is dripping slowly, the grind might be the reason why, so just go a little coarser so it flows freely again.

Can I use it for tea or something different than coffee?

It can be used to brew tea as well. However, if you will switch between drinks that can leave traces in the pores that carry over to your next drink, we recommend a conscious hand-rinse or wash to avoid mixing flavors.

Will the COFIL filter fit my mug?

The COFIL filters rest on the rim of a cup, mug, or server with an opening of roughly 6.9–11.3 cm (2.7–4.4 in). Measure across the inside of your favorite mug to before using them. Very wide bowls or narrow espresso cups won't sit securely.

The filter is barely dripping now, is it broken?

Over time, coffee oils build up inside the pores and slow things down. To bring it back to use:

  1. Put the filter in a pot of water with no coffee or soap.
  2. Bring it to a boil and let it simmer for 5–10 minutes. A spoonful of baking soda helps lift any stubborn oil.
  3. Take it out with tongs due to the heat and let it dry completely.

This is normal upkeep and we recommend to do it every few weeks to a couple of months, depending on how often you brew.

The color/texture looks a bit different than in the pictures

Each filter is made by hand in Hasami, Nagasaki, so small differences in color, texture, spots, and shape are completely normal and do not change how the coffee brews.
