Working together to create Blades that last 100 years
In Hashima City, Gifu Prefecture, Swordsmith and head of the Asano smithy Fusataro-san works with two young talented apprentices in continuing the centuries old tradition of forging swords and knives.
Fusataro-san nurtures a unique bond with his apprentices, not drawing a deep line between student and teacher, but working as equals, he strives to enable his apprentices to surpass him someday.
The masters main ambition is combining tradition with progress, traveling the world exchanging information with international smiths, curators and researchers. Sharing his knowledge, he is trying to find ways to bring change to a centuries old craft to ensure its survival in the future.
