About the maker
MEET THE ARTISAN BEHIND MOCKATS
For over 10 years Shoichi Kusakari has run a small woodcrafting workshop in Chizu, Tottori Prefecture, Japan, a region that is 93% forest and known for its high-quality cedar.
Shoichi Kusakari practices traditional magewappa (bentwood) techniques unique to Chizu, carefully bending thin slices of cedar into beautiful oval-shaped bento boxes.
From selecting the tree to slicing and prepping the wood, he handles most of the work himself; his mother occasionally helps him.
Cedar continues to change with humidity and heat. Kusakari says the tree keeps living even after it becomes a bento box, subtly evolving over years of use, and the wood’s cedar aroma makes the lunch inside even more enjoyable.

Is MOCKATS Bento Box dishwasher safe?
Because MOCKATS bento boxes are made from thin, bent cedar and finished with natural oils to preserve the box, we do not recommend cleaning them in a dishwasher.
To clean, wash gently with mild soap and a soft sponge. Do not soak or use hot water. Dry the box in the shade, standing upright to allow air to circulate.
Is MOCKATS Bento Box Oven or microwave safe?
Because MOCKATS bento boxes are made from thin, bent cedar and finished with natural oils to preserve the wood, they are not safe for use in microwaves or ovens.
High heat can dry, crack, or warp the wood and can cause natural oils or finishes to smoke, degrade, or even ignite. Seams or glued joints may also separate under intense heat.
To reheat food, warm it in a microwave- or oven-safe container, then transfer it to the bento box.
