Story
Working together to create Blades that last 100 years
In Hashima City, Gifu Prefecture, swordsmith and head of the Asano smithy Fusataro-san works with two young talented apprentices in continuing the centuries-old tradition of forging swords and knives.
Fusataro-san nurtures a unique bond with his apprentices. Without drawing a strict line between student and teacher, he works together with them as equals, in the hopes that they will one day surpass him in skill.
The master's main ambition is combining tradition with progress, traveling the world to exchange information with international smiths, curators and researchers. By sharing his knowledge, he aims to bring change to a centuries-old craft to ensure its survival in the future.

Sword master Fusataro-san currently mentors two skilled apprentices, one of whom is Samuel, a passionate craftsman originally from France. Under Fusataro's expert guidance, Samuel is fulfilling his lifelong dream of becoming a traditional Japanese craftsman. Together, they are forging not only blades—but a cultural bridge between Japan and France through craftsmanship.

Preserving Legacy & Tradition
At the heart of the Asano smithy lies a powerful ambition—to continue the art of Japanese knife-making for the next 100 years and beyond. Each handcrafted knife is engraved with a unique serial number, recording the name and date of the craftsman who forged it. This tradition ensures that future generations can trace the blade’s origin, honoring the legacy of timeless craftsmanship and enduring quality.
How to Sharpen your knife
Caring for your knife will make it last you for decades. After use, wash it with clean hot water, dry it off thoroughly, and place it in newspaper to prevent rusting. Check out the video below for more information on how to sharpen your knife with a sharpening stone, and how to store it safely.
