Story
Sakai Knives: A 600-Year Legacy of Collective Craftsmanship
Sakai knives have been around for over 600 years. This tradition is not the work of one individual smithy - it is carried on by a conglomerate of blacksmiths, blade sharpening professionals and merchants, who all strive to pass the tradition down to the next generation.
And this is what makes Sakai knives so special, and why many consider them to be the best in the world.
Yamawaki Hamono is among several professional blade sharpeners in Sakai City, and has been working with high-end knives since 1927.
The craftsmen at Yamawaki Hamono combine traditional and cutting-edge techniques to create knives with a sharpness and quality that cannot be found elsewhere.
