Abe-san
Abe-san took over the Yatai stall from his grandfather around 7 years ago, which makes him a rare second-generation Yatai owner.
For him, Yatai are so much more than just a place to get a snack: It's a place where people get together, and form a community.
Back in the days, Shinto shrines were the type of place where that happened.
Which is why Abe-san took inspiration from his shrine- carpenter days when he rebuilt his Yatai.
Today, regulars alongside tourists sit side by side, together creating the "Yatai Keiji Community".

CREATING CULTURE
Yatai Keiji went into business September 1991. Since then, it has continued to preserve Hakata's Yatai culture while changing its form many times.
Yatai are at the mercy of local regulations and rules, and are often affected by rain and wind, making it difficult for them to operate. Nevertheless, second-generation owner Abe-san has vowed to continue to pass on Yatai culture to the next generation, and to keep making customers smile.
He hopes that people around the world will come to enjoy Hakata's cuisine, and come to understand and love Yatai culture.
